Cleansing of the Conscience
Heb. 9:13-14 --For if the blood of
goats and bulls and the ashes of a
heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the
cleansing of the flesh,
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from
dead works to serve the living God?
The blood does not just cleanse us from sin, but cleanses our
conscience from religion.
The word conscience means "to know within oneself"
7 things about the conscience:
1---It was a product of the fall, it was given by God to govern man
until the law came, after that it has to be cleansed under the
government of God, and only by the blood of Jesus.
2---It is shaped by our culture, authority figures, religious
influence and up-bringing.
3---It is often mistaken as being God speaking to us, and mostly
comes in condemnation, accusations and excuses and that is not God.
4---It becomes dirty and unreliable through the dead works of
religion.
5---It will either accuse us or excuse us, but never reveal Christ or
bring us to God by itself it take the Holy Spirit to reveal God.
6---We cannot clean our own conscience, it takes a "clean man"
(Jesus) to cleanse our conscience He does this by His own blood.
7---A clean conscience brings happiness, liberty, and the fruit of
the Kingdom of God.
Our conscience is to remain seated at rest in the finished work of
Jesus Christ having confidence with "God and peace with others."
